Hamburg: the Freihafen Elbe Bridge closed to HGV traffic
In order to reduce the load on the Freihafen Elbe Bridge, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has decided to introduce a weight limit. From 26 September, vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes will no longer be allowed to cross the bridge.
The measure has been undertaken because of the current condition of the bridge structure, which is nearly 100 years old.
Diversion routes for vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes run across the new Elbe Bridge, which can be reached via Veddeler Marktplatz and Zweibrückenstrasse.
